TIME TO GET REAL - MAKE YOUR SCENES LONGER, HARDER & MULTI-ORGANIC w/ Egg Zeppelin

image

In this long-form scene-work intensive you will drop all your gags, tricks, sweeps and tag edits at the door. This 2-hour class will focus on the building blocks of creating organic, truthful scenes in real time, in the moment. Learn how to fast-track into believable characters, with particular attention paid to common problems such as avoiding negativity towards scene partners, towards yourself and getting rid of the urge to gag - the buzz-kill of all improv scenes. This is a chance to work with 2 experienced instructors coaches who will look objectively at the work you’re doing and offer constructive feedback and suggestions on how to bring your game to the next level.

Oct. 15 12-2pm, $40 ($30 for fest performers).  Email: classes@montrealimprov.com

Ask us anything!

How do you make sure that people learn improvisational skills in one day workshop?

At gunpoint.

Or, if you want a little less drama, I think there are plenty of good exercises that can introduce improv to people in a one-day workshop. (I’m going to assume the question is essentially “How do you teach people improv if you only have a one-day workshop?”)

I’d break it down into the following steps:

  • Get people to enjoy playing
  • Get people to enjoy making mistakes
  • Introduce the terms of improv
  • Introduce storytelling
  • Introduce listening, cooperation and sharing control
  • Do some scenes and games

That would take me about 6 hours to cover though I could squeeze it into 4 and stretch it out to 8 if I had to. There are plenty of sample exercises out there on the web for each of these steps. That’s what I would do.
