Two Shows: Level 3 (+ afterparty!) and Uncalled...
1) Tonight: Level 3 Graduation show. Some of the class played a couple games on Tuesday but the whole class will get 40+ minutes of games and scenes. It’s tonight at 9pm at OFF Interarts (5145 St Laurent). It’s free! I especially recommend this to students. Then after the show, stick around for the End of Year Party!
2) Saturday: Uncalled For Holiday Formal. It’s at MainLine...

Improv Nerds Only

What if improv only had two rules: 1. Make each other right and make big decisions & assumptions until something fun happens. 2. Follow and expand upon that fun thing, fearlessly and without looking back, together.
Agreed.
I don’t shy away from using improvese because do I find a lot of it helpful. But I’ve also told groups I’ve coached that you only need...

Goodbye, Improv Tuesday (with apologies to the...
Last night was the last night of Improv Tuesdays. We went out on a high note with a wonderful evening of improv hosted by Marc.
First up came three students from our Level 3 classes: Natalie, Kevin & Karine. They were a wildlife biologist and an ear-loving blind date. They looked great up there. I wish we could have given them more time but it was a busy night. Up next was The Letter H (Josh...

There is danger in improv.
It’s not like working in a mine or anything but every time we go up onstage there’s a chance that our scene bombs. And it can happen to anyone. It doesn’t matter how many times you do improv with great show after great show. At any given moment, it can all just explode.
But that’s the thrill. There can equally be a moment of discovery, of...

Improv Tuesday: A Recap
I hosted a fun evening of improv last night. These Tuesdays have turned into a nice little night of fun. I’m getting a little sad we’ve decided to stop them after next week but I think it’s the right decision.
As I mentioned, I was hosting. I have a hard time being energetic onstage so I amp myself up because a host’s job is to get the crowd going a little and primed for...

TV Show Promo of the Day: The highly-anticipated return of Canada’s funniest fivesome, The Kids in the Hall, in the form of the 8-part miniseries Death Comes to Town, gets its first official promo.
The show is set to begin airing in January on CBC Television.

I’d like to see that.

Riffing
Riffing is playing with an idea, savouring it and building upon it. When it works it can add to the play of the scene. In one of the recent Improv Tuesdays (only two left!), Anders (of Uncalled For) and BJ (of Without Annette) did a great set that had a very nice blend of riffing and then getting back into the story. It was very enjoyable because it had a fun, relaxed feeling but it also went...
The Final Two Improv Tuesdays
I just wanted to let you all know that after these next two shows, we’re calling time on the experiment known as Improv Tuesdays. It’s been a great run but we’re going to move on to new projects and build off of what we’ve learned. That said, I’m pretty excited about these last two shows. The coming show on Dec 8th will be free to attend for everyone who does one of...

Show: Tonight, The Follow-Up, Le Cagibi, 9pm, 5$
Trivia + Comedy = Tromedy (trauma-dy?) Montreal Improv presents “The Follow-Up”, a show that puts as much emphasis on the comedy as it does the trivia. A simple trivia question is followed-up with a related but near-impossible question. The guest panelists are rewarded as much for their phony answers as much as their real ones. It’s a friendly challenge of quips and arcane...
